Abstract

Baskets for carrying tools equipment used onshore and offshore consist of wire rope which very important to attention about the lifting strength. The streng of the steel rope must meet the working load limits. Unsafe use can be an impact on damage to the tools being lifted and also have an impact on the surrounding area and have a bad impact resulting in serious injury to death. Changes in the characteristic of the steel rope are influenced by several factors, including shape, long life and location. The strength of steel rope nominal diameter 14mm with construction type is 35 x K7 galvanized coating has an actual breaking force of 122.86kN, 126.51kn and 135.66kN. This value strength shows the working load limits of 2.38 tons, 2.45 tons and 135.66 tons. This value is 2.49 tons higher on average than the permissible working load limits at intervals 2.4 – 4.2 ton. However, based on the steel rope specification specimens data, the resulting strength value decreased by minus 6.99% from minimum breaking force of 138kN or the working load limits value of 2.67 tons. To maintain the properties of the steel ropes, it is necessary to carry out periodic maintenance and inspection. Including offering lubrication by using material that contain anti-rust.
