Abstract

Indonesia is an archipelagic country with the largest number of islands in the world. As an archipelagic country, sea transportation has a major contribution to the national and regional economy. It is stated in Law Number (No.) 17 of 2008. One of the big problems of sea transportation is corrosion. Corrosion can damage ships and endanger safety. Therefore, this study aims to measure the corrosion rate on the bottom plate of the hull and analyze its technical life. Measurements were carried out using an ultrasonic thickness instrument at test points on the bottom plate of the tug boat prima star 7 . The measurement results show that the corrosion rate on the bottom plate of the tug boat prima star 7 every year is 0.08 mm, and the estimated technical life is about 25 years. Corrosion that occurs is only 4% which means the tug boat prima star 7 is still good to operate
